How to create a tabular report with Drill-Through capability

Overview

SolveXia Analytics & Reporting provides a simple way to create powerful reports based on managed tables. With the latest BI and data visualisation techniques, you can create reports that communicate and inform effectively.

This article is a tutorial which will act as a guide to creating tabular reports with drill-through capability. After completing this tutorial, you will be able to create a tabular report with hyperlinked data column, whereby clicking on a particular hyperlinked data value will take you to another tabular report. Two reports will therefore have to be created: 1) the parent report, which will contain hyperlinks; 2) the child report, which will open up if a hyperlink in the parent report is selected.

Before we get started

Before you start, please ensure that you have a managed table with at least one row of data. If you need help to create a managed table or to import data into a managed table, please refer to the articles below.

For the purposes of this article we will continue to use the example from the How to create a report with a pie chart tutorial.

Steps – Child Report

1. Create a new Report with the managed table used in the How to create a report with a pie chart tutorial. For the sake of convenience, you can name the Report as “Child” within SolveXia.

2. At the ‘Report Data’ stage, drag the ‘AirlineInfo_Date,’ ‘AirlineInfo_Carrier_Name’ and ‘AirlineInfo_Amount’ field from the Data Field pane into the Columns pane.

3. Aggregate the ‘AirlineInfo_Amount’ column.

4. Drag the ‘AirlineInfo_Date’ field into the Filters pane.

5. Navigate directly to the ‘Preview’ stage. Save the report with the name of “CHILD” and Activate.

3. Aggregate the ‘AirlineInfo_Amount’ column.

4. Within the ‘Report Options’ pane, and under the ‘Analysis’ section, select ‘Drill Through’.

5. Navigate to the next stage (the ‘Related Reports’ stage).

6. In the left-hand ‘Search’ pane, find the Child report. It might help if you search through Recent Reports. Click the blue arrow to the right of “Search”. Select ‘Recent Reports’ from the dropdown that appears.

7. Drag the report you saved as “CHILD” into the ‘Drill Through’ pane.

8. In the right-hand side pane, under ‘Join’, configure the ‘Master Field’ by selecting the collapsed dropdown containing the value “- – Select Field – -”. Select “AirlineInfo_Date” from the dropdown.

9. Then, under ‘Options’, configure the ‘Hyperlink field’ by selecting the collapsed dropdown containing the value “- – Select Field – -”. Select “AirlineInfo_Date” from the dropdown.

10. Again, under ‘Options’. Tick the white box to the right-hand side of ‘Popup New Window’. Click Update.

11. Navigate to the ‘Preview’ stage.

12. To ‘drill-through’ for a breakdown of the ‘Amount’ for the 27th of February 2012, click the blue hyperlink for this date.
